The HK protests break my heart, because in the end, I feel like everyone collectively knows that Beijing won't acede to their demands, at least, on the surface, and if a crackdown occurs, the repercussions in HK are going to surpass that of Tiananmen.

And also, because if/when Taiwan ever becomes absorbed by China, and acedes to the "one country, two systems" law, how will China ever keep that promise, when they've already shown that they just want to brute-force their way into control, rather than letting it organically happen, when people care less?

God, I hope it works out, but I don't think it will.
